Virtual Technical
Academy
A solution that brings technical training on complex systems into a digital environment that is secure and accessible from anywhere.
The context
Ensuring safe and effective technical training outside the training centre. A technical training centre specialising in the maintenance and servicing of variable frequency drives and industrial motors must ensure that advanced technical training is effective even when delivered off-site, directly at the customer’s premises.
Our goal: to enable anyone to practise safely on complex equipment, whether in the classroom or remotely.
The solution
Virtual Technical Academy is the solution, based on Techstar Core and developed by Techstar, that replicates real systems and equipment in a virtual environment, enabling comprehensive practical exercises without location constraints. The project centres on a series of virtual workshops dedicated to variable frequency drives, which are among the most widely used products in industry. These workshops feature a digital twin that realistically reproduces motors, inverters, tools, manuals, and workbenches.
The training sessions are structured like a timed team competition: participants, divided into groups, simulate the commissioning of the converter in a multi-user environment, which is also accessible from different locations, accumulating points and receiving real-time support from the instructors.
The results
Timed Team *
Gamified team-based format for converter commissioning
Multi-site *
A multi-user environment that can also be accessed from different locations
Real-time *
Real-time support from teachers during the exam
100% *
Portable: in the training centre or at the customer’s premises
* Values recorded during technical training sessions delivered at the training centre and at customer sites.
Safe, hands-on training, wherever the technician is located. The introduction of digital twin labs has made advanced technical training more engaging, safer, and available across multiple locations. In terms of training effectiveness, the team-based gamified format kept attention high even during the most complex phases of the exercise, with greater engagement than in traditional face-to-face courses. Comparing scores and the feedback collected at the end of the session made it possible to quickly identify recurring errors and difficulties.
When it comes to operational safety, participants can practise commissioning complex equipment without the risks and constraints of real-world installations, either at the training centre or directly at clients’ premises. Multi-site scalability completes the picture: the digital and portable nature of the solution allows the same training to be delivered to teams spread across multiple locations, opening up new possibilities for distance learning as well.
Practise using complex equipment safely, whether in the classroom or remotely, with the same effectiveness as an in-person course.
